Don’t forget about your worms during this hot weather. The ideal temperature for your red wigglers is somewhere between 55 and 77 degrees Farenheit. Some sources note that worms can survive in temperatures ranging from 40 to 80 degrees but after 85 degrees, your worms are unlikely to make it.
During extreme weather make sure to add some extra moisture, keep your bin out of the sun, and, if necessary, move it to an indoor location. Building a small shade tent for your bin can also help a lot. If you live in a location that has extreme weather, you may consider building a more travel-friendly bin that you can move around easily.

I am wanting to start a worm farm but i live in the high desert.
The temperatures in the summer are usually 88 and above and at night it cools to 60-70ish. I was wondering if there were any techniques that could keep my worms happy during the day without drowning them, we dont have much shade out here either. Do you think it would be a good idea to make a deeper than normal compost pile for the worms to travel down to the cooler areas during daytime.
You can always keep your bin indoors. Your garage may be a good spot. I know a couple of people who even keep their bins in their closet.
You don’t need to add worms to a compost pile. If you add worms to a bin with an open bottom your worms will leave when the bin heats up and may never come back. For best results, the worms you purchase should be kept in a closed bottom container.
If it seems like you don’t have a location for worms your best bet may be to create a compost pile. Bacteria will break down the material regardless of the temperature as long as you keep the pile moist and add air.
